Наукова школа кріобіохімії (Scientific School of Cryobiochemistry)

Аполлон Максимович Білоус народився у 1929 р. у місті Кам’янець-Подільський на Хмельниччині. У 1955 р. закінчив Київський медичний інститут. З 1959 р. працював науковим співробітником Українського НДІ ортопедії та травматології ім. М.І. Ситенка. У 1962 р. захистив кандидатську, а у 1968 р. – докторську дисертацію, після чого став керівником лабораторії біохімії Інституту. У 1969 р. ВАК СРСР присвоїв Аполлону Максимовичу звання професора за спеціальністю «біохімія».
У 1972 р. професор А.М. Білоус стає одним із організаторів Інституту проблем кріобіології і кріомедицини Академії наук УРСР, у стінах якого були розроблені нові напрямки в науці – кріобіологія та кріомедицина. Очоливши відділ кріобіохімії ІПКіК АН УРСР А.М. Білоус теоретично обґрунтовує та здійснює цикл досліджень щодо вивчення структурно-функціонального стану клітин та тканин за низьких температур, що дозволило встановити закономірності кріопошкоджень біологічних об’єктів, вдосконалити технології кріоконсервування.
У 1988 р. А.М. Білоуса було обрано членом-кореспондентом АН УРСР.
Наукові досягнення А.М. Білоуса висвітлені у понад 300-х наукових роботах. Він є співавтором 15 монографій та 18 винаходів.
Під його керівництвом захищено понад 30 кандидатських та 8 докторських дисертацій, його учні очолили відділи ІПКіК НАН України та кафедри відомих університетів.
За досягнення у галузі фундаментальної кріобіології А.М. Білоус був нагороджений медаллю «За наполегливу працю», почесними грамотами Президії АН УРСР та Верховної Ради УРСР, а також отримав Державну премію в галузі науки і техніки.
Враховуючи суттєві досягнення та значний особистий внесок у розвиток науки в Україні, особливу увагу, яку приділяв Аполлон Максимович росту і розвитку нового покоління науковців, адміністрація ІПКіК НАН України започаткувала щорічний конкурс імені професора А.М. Білоуса для молодих вчених на кращу наукову роботу (цикл робіт).

Scientific School of Cryobiochemistry founded by Apollon Maksymovych Bilous.

Apollon Maksymovych Bilous was born in 1929 in the Kamianets-Podilskyi town of the Khmelnytsky region. He graduated from the Kyiv Medical Institute in 1955. In 1959 he started to work as a researcher at the M.I. Sitenko Ukrainian scientific research institute of orthopedics and traumatology in Kharkiv. In 1962 he defended Ph.D thesis, and later in 1968 - his doctoral dissertation, afterwards he headed the laboratory of biochemistry of the Institute. The USSR Higher Attestation Commission awarded Apollon Maksimovych the professor title in "biochemistry" in 1969.
In 1972, Professor A.M. Bilous became one of the founders of the Institute for Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine (IPC&C) of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. New scientific directions, i.e. cryobiology and cryomedicine, were developed within the Institute framework. Being the Head of the Department of Cryobiochemistry at the IPC&C of Academy of Sciences of the USSR A.M. Bilous theoretically substantiated and conducted a series of experiments to study the structural and functional state of cells and tissues at low temperatures, that enabled to establish patterns of cryo-damage of biological objects, and to improve cryopreservation technologies.
In 1988, A.M. Bilous was elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences.A.M. Bilous
Scientific achievements have been covered in more than 300 scientific papers. He co-authored 15 monographs and 18 inventions. Under his leadership, more than 30 candidates and 8 doctors' dissertations were defended, his students headed the IPC&C of NAS of Ukraine departments and those of other scientific institutions and universities.
For his achievements in fundamental cryobiology A.M. Bilous was awarded the Medal for Diligent Activity, diplomas of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and the Verkhovna Rada of the USSR, and received the State Prize in Science and Technology.
Assuming his great achievements and significant personal contribution to the development of science in Ukraine, as well as the special attention paid by Apollon Maksymovych to the up-bringing and development of a new generation of scientists, the administration of IPC&C of NAS of Ukraine launched an annual competition named after Professor A.M. Bilous for young scientists' best scientific research (cycle of works).
